Why Your Name Stays Off the Viewers List
Instagram records a story view against the account that watched it. When you open a story here, the request comes from our servers, never from an Instagram account of yours, so there is nothing that links the view to you. You don't sign in, and we never ask for your Instagram password. That is also why you can watch stories on a phone or computer that has never had Instagram installed.
What You Can Watch
Any public account's current stories: photos, videos and their sound, each with its posting time and how long it has left. Stories disappear 24 hours after they are posted. If the owner saved some of them to highlights, those stay on the profile, and you'll find them on the Highlights tab. Stories from private accounts are shown only to the followers the owner approved, so no story viewer can open them.
Stories That Already Disappeared
Once its 24 hours are up, a story is gone from public view unless the owner saved it to a highlight. We don't keep an archive of old stories, and sites that claim to show expired stories can only show what someone saved before it disappeared. Check the account's highlights instead: that is where people keep the stories they want to stay.
Questions
Will the account owner know I watched their story?
No. Your view isn't tied to any Instagram account, so your name can't show up in their viewers list. They'll see no new name and get no notification.
Can I watch stories from a private account?
No. A private account's stories are visible only to approved followers. Sites that promise otherwise are scams.
Do I need an Instagram account?
No. Enter a username and the stories open. No sign-up, no login and nothing to install.
Can I download stories?
Yes. Each story has a Download button that saves it as a photo or an MP4 video with its sound. Please keep downloads for personal use and ask before reposting.
Why don't I see a story they just posted?
Stories are checked when someone looks them up and kept for up to 10 minutes, so the newest one may take a few minutes to appear. Try again shortly.
Can I see who viewed a story?
No. Only the person who posted a story can see its viewers, in their own Instagram app. No outside site can show that list.
